At the end of February 2007 the Panasonic company informed about launching a new Leica-D Summilux 25 mm f/1.4 lens on the market. The D letter in the name means that it was designed to work with the Four Thirds system detectors, so with reflex cameras made by such manufacturers as Leica, Olympus and Panasonic.

The lens was on the shop shelves in autumn 2007 and aroused a lot of interest; mainly because its unusual parameters, which make it the equivalent of the classic, an analog fast 50 mm lens. Of course the same dose of excitement was connected with the legendary Leica brand name on the barrel and the price of 785 $. As you see, the lens is not cheap but still about 500 & cheaper than the other 1.4/35 mm instruments, produced by such companies as Canon or Sony, which are also the equivalents of a 50 mm lens on the APS-C/DX sensors.

It this lens worth buying? Does a Leica with the captions “Panasonic” and “Lumix” on its barrel, spiced up with the proud “Made in Japan”, still have the same optical properties as the lenses with “Made in Germany” on them? Courtesy of the Pstryk.pl shop we were able to check it – happy reading!
