1. Introduction

When I heard that Panasonic and Olympus companies announced launching the Micro 4/3 system I was very happy. Of course I was also fully aware that, at the very beginning, the new cameras would come with plastic kit lenses to accommodate the needs of mass market customers. I hoped, however, that in time real pearls will be released as well – lenses which would be able to make the most of the size of the sensor and its possibilities.

Three years have passed and I admit I feel a bit disappointed. The fastest lenses in the Olympus line-up are f/1.8 “primes” – such an aperture is not impressive anymore even for full frame. Similar things can be said about Panasonic devices – you can find no fast lenses there but the situation is saved to some extend by Leica which helped with the construction of the f/1.4 standard.

A new Voigtlander standard lens proved to be the light at the end of the tunnel. We think here about the Nokton with f/0.95 aperture and 25 mm focal length. It was a real pleasure to test such a lens as the quality of its images was great. The company, encouraged by that success, decided to follow up that advantage and not so long ago they presented another instrument of that series with even more difficult parameters – that of 0.95/17.5.
