Samyang AF 24 mm f/1.8 FE
1. Introduction
First three lenses from that series we've already tested and all of them deserved our praise for their sensible performance, especially very favourable price/performance ratios. Compared to other Sony FE optics instruments, f/1.8 Samyang are very sensibly priced as you have to pay for them just about $350. The newest 1.8/24 model is more expensive, though – its price tag amounts to $500 or so. It is a sum of money notably higher than the amount you have to spend in order to purchase one of its system brothers. On the one hand we aren't surprised. A construction of a 1.8/24 instrument is more difficult than a construction of, say a 1.8/35 or a 1.8/45 device. On the other hand, seeing the higher price you are tempted to ask wether you get something extra instead. Of course we hope that, after reading our test, you will know the answer to that and other questions, and your doubts will be dispelled.
We would like to thank the Focus Nordic company, the sole distributor for Samyang devices in Poland, for lending us one specimen of the lens which we used in our test.
