Polarizing filters test
16. Heliopan ES Pol circ. SH-PMC 72 mm
Heliopan is a known German company, whose history dates back to 1948. You can find a whole range of filters of different diameters and mountings in their offer. The producer took care of quality and durability using Schott glass and Protect Multi Coatings (SH-PMC). Heliopan has always been identified with high quality… and price.

Usage
The ring turns smoothly, with a little unequal resistance. Cleaning isn’t troublesome. No problems during the tests.
Summary
13th place in the overall ranking (24.5/37.5)The transmission curve is flat in the center of the visible light spectrum. Violet is more and red less absorbed. The extinction coefficient of around 1.3/10000 is very good for a foil polarizer. Extinguishing equal in the whole visible range. C1 and C2 graphs indicate that we’re dealing with a quarter-wave plate of zeroth order designed for the middle of visible spectrum. The filter introduces large scattering. Even though the antireflection coatings work well, halo can be seen around light sources. The level of this aberration is so high that it significantly influences the total transmission. This shouldn't happen in such expensive polarizer from an acknowledged manufacturer.
