Canon EF 24-105 mm f/4L IS USM
1. Introduction
The presentation of a Canon EOS 5D reflex camera and an EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM lens set in August 2005 was, in my opinion, one of the most interesting Canon launches in recent years. Canon decided to launch a semi-professional or even professional full frame reflex camera and, at the same time, gave a perfect standard lens to be used with it; the lens not only belonged to the Luxury class but also offered angles of views from 84 to 23.3 degrees, image stabilization and a fast USM motor.
The buyer was given a very efficient and universal set with which you can shoot landscape, journalistic and portrait photos as well. There was one problem, though – the price. It was especially felt on the Polish market because immediately after the launch it amounted to almost 15,000 PLN for the set. The optimists consoled us that initially we had to pay for a 5D as much as for a Canon EOS 10D, and the latter device’s price, during 2 years after its launch, has gone down more than 50%. Currently the situation looks a bit better but not as much as we wished it to be. The lens hasn’t become a lot less expensive because optics doesn’t lose value as quickly as electronics. The Canon 5D hasn’t seen any other full frame competitor produced by other companies yet so its price has got just 20% lower during two years. Canon feels so sure in this segment that the 5D, although two-year-old now, still waits for a successor.

Currently a 5D-plus-24-105 IS set can be bought for 12,000 PLN and the lens itself costs 3,800 PLN. These sums are significantly high so we decided to check whether you really get a device worth its money.
The lens for our tests was lent by the Cyfrowe.pl shop
