Nikon Nikkor AF-S 20 mm f/1.8G ED

1. Introduction

There are not many fast, full frame ultra wide-angle “primes” available on the market. The unique Leica Summilux-M 21mm f/1.4 ASPH is a class of its own; still its price, amounting to 24,000 PLN, makes it not especially popular in Poland. The M system rival of the Leica, the Voigtlander Ultron 21 mm f/1.8, would be more popular I guess but still, taking into account the fact that the M system is not widely known or used, the sales volume of that one isn’t perhaps very impressive either.

When it comes to devices designed for reflex cameras your choice is, in fact, limited to the elderly Sigma 20 mm f/1.8 EX AF Aspherical RF; other producers’ line-ups feature either zoom lenses or f/2.8 “primes”.

At the Photokina 2014 the Nikon company decided to break that mould and presented the Nikon AF-S 20 mm f/1.8G ED. Courtesy of the Fotozakupy.pl shop we managed to have that lens delivered for testing purposes pretty quickly and today we are very happy to present the results of our full test.
