Cons: Large and heavy for focal length.
Pros: Image quality is unsurpassed. Sharpness is simply stunning, even wide open, corner to corner. Beautiful, saturated color. Gorgeous, smooth bokeh. No visible, lateral CA. Despite the large aperture, even longitudinal CA is hard to find. Build quality is excellent, all metal and glass. Manual focus is perfect: smooth, precise, perfectly damped.
Summary: An amazing lens. Simply excellent, as long as I do my part. On top of the outstanding image quality is the superb build quality. It’s a piece of industrial art, as the best lenses always used to be, back before they all became plastic. Although autofocus would be convenient, I would not want to give up the superb manual focus for the convenience. And this manual focus is perfect. I used to have a Nikkor 135/2.8, and I wanted the highly touted Nikon AF 135/2 DC. But, I didn’t like it. The color fringing was horrible. Sure, it had great bokeh, but it seemed like a big step backwards in overall image quality. Then I tried this Zeiss.
