Cons: Will flare if you catch a direct light source. Some correctable color fringing. must be stopped down
Pros: compact and very well built if used properly nicely sharp on full frame as good as anything canon has to offer at this focal length
Summary: I use this lens for interiors and obtain professional level results. Essentially it has to be stopped down to at least f8 for corner resolution and contrast. I use it at f11 focused at infinity (olympus mount adapted for canon 5d mk2) to get huge depth of field and good resolution corner to corner. (on and aps sensor you may get by at f 5.6) I have to be careful about lens flare and other manifestations of light bouncing around inside - but I am. Also there can be high lateral ca but not always - I keep my eyes out for it. If necessary I correct to rectilinear using ptlens. The distortion isn't massive so correction is straightforward and not always needed. I think the lens is as good - stopped down - as anything canon has to offer - and at $125.00 (including lens correction software) it is truly a bargain. It also has the advantage of feeling like a nice compact chunk of metal, rubber and glass - because it is.

Cons: Quite soft in corners and edges. Color slightly off. Purple fringing in corners. Noticeable distortion in architectural images. Some flare and ghosting.
Pros: Always very sharp in center. Excellent build quality. Smooth, easy focus. Focuses very closely--0.25 meter.
Summary: This lens works very well with the wonderful perspective given from its ultrawide angle view. While soft in the corners and edges, it improves considerably when stopped down, and becomes very good by f/8. Flare and ghosting can be an issue if the sun grazes the front element, which is easy to do with a 104 degree field of view. Must be careful, especially since a hood is very difficult to find and will likely have very little beneficial effect. The overall color seems slightly green. This can be corrected easily in post-production. Purple fringing is present in corners, but isn't a problem unless the image is blown up too far. The level of geometric distortion seen in this lens seems pretty average for this focal length.
