Cons: High distortion at wide end, microcontrast

Pros: High resolution, very useful range

Summary: Very consistent lens, with excellent sharpness, especially from 24mm up (on 35mm it is really questioning the 35mm dx f1.8 prime). Unfortunatelly, distortion is very high at wide end (distroying the corners). Together with average microcontrast are the reasons way I simply enjoy more in 16-85mm.

Cons: A little bit \'consumer\' in its build, i.e. no distance scale, slack in focus ring. However, the plastics are good enough and the zoom action very smooth. Distortion a little heavy at the wide end. Typically slow optics being a kit zoom, but works well wide open.

Pros: Good sharpness across the full focal range Achieves good sharpness across the field without much stopping down Excellent VR Useful focal length range Excellent ergonomics Not too big or heavy Decent contrast Good close focus ability Accurate AF Capable of blowing a background at full extension Handles flare surprisingly well

Summary: This was the first lens to tempt me back into zooms after years of using almost exclusively primes, I find it getting used reasonably often due to is genuine performance and versatility. Seems to mate rather well with the D7100. Its a little bit of a \'whitegood\' in the sense it lacks any particular cachet (but to be expected at the price point). Its not the most exciting lens in the world, but wins you over with its undeniably competent all around ability. Fantastic if you are travelling light or feeling lazy (or just being honest with yourself..)

Cons: A little heavy at times and wish I had a better lens hood. Sometimes I would like a faster lens, but then I change to my 50mm f1.8.

Pros: This has become my lens of choice. I have 21 Nikon lens, and the two competitors are a Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-f/5.6 AF-S Lens and a Nikkor 55-200mm f/4.0-f/5.6 ED AF-S, as well as macro and some prime lens. However, unless I am taking Marco photographs, this lens is what I use most of the time. Quality is excellent and several 16-inch by 20-inch prints made up have been very sharp and clear.

Summary: I would recommend this as the lens of choice for the beginning photographer. It will do anything you are able to take until you go into areas requiring a special lens.

    Cons: Cons

    Pros: Pros

Summary: Very good optical quality for this range of zoom lens for dx. Very sharp pictures and quite heavy lens which I think tells a bit of the quality also! The best kitlens you could ever get! Manual focus ring could be more accurate though!

Cons: Not sure, except my autofocus may need a bit of fine tuning.

Pros: Very sharp across the zoom range, Very useful zoom range. VR is very effective.

Summary: I really like this lens. It came with my D7000, and I love the all-inclusive zoom range. I did some tests at home with a sharpness chart and was surprised to find that it's actually superior to the DX 35mm f/1.8G prime! It's both sharper and has much less chromatic aberration. The 35mm f1.8 prime doesn't really become useful untill f/2.8 or even f/4.0 depending on how picky you are. So the 18-140 is pretty much the only lens one needs, except when you really need shallow DOF.

    Cons: No focus distance scale.

Pros: Sharp for a zoom and much better than the 16-85. Very useful focal range on a DX camera. Ideal walkabout lens.

Summary: Great value lens that performs very decently. The ideal one lens solution for holidays !

Cons: The distortion, colour aberrations, vignetting.

Pros: The single advantage of that lens is the resolution.

Summary: I've just bought it. I'm upset. I expected much more from Nikon. The single advantage of that lens is the resolution. But it's not ectraordinary resolution. It's simply normal, like all other lenses of this type have. As for distortion, colour aberrations, vignetting these parameters are quite pour. I've put some test photos below which could give you some information about that lens. Anyway 600 USD is not fair price for that lens. The price should be less than 300 USD. Probably it is acceptable to use this lens as the travel one with the simple bodies like 3100 or 3200. http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/aimatyna/v ... 43/?page=0 http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/aimatyna/v ... 51/?page=0 http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/aimatyna/v ... 49/?page=0
