Cons: No aperture ring Purple/Green Color fringing when shot wide open Price; other affordable alternatives
Pros: Small size Concave front element looks cool Lightweight Superb image quality
Summary: I'm surprised only one person has made a review on this website before me. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time. I'm a 50mm guy. This lens is one of the original full frame E-mount lenses. It's SMALL and LIGHTWEIGHT for a 50mm. It has a quite complex design including 3 aspherical elements which negotiates the high price for a lens in this class. Image quality-wise, it's stunning wide open. With the only drawback being the purple / green color fringing when shot wide open. I like to use this lens at f/2.0 or f/2.2. Other 1.8/50 's can be had for a quarter the price for any other brand. If you're entering the Sony world, the 50mm f/1.8 Sony version can be had for $250. The Sony has more color fringing and thus, less usefulness wide open. The Rokinon/Samyang 50mm f/1.4 can be had for half the price but is much larger. If you walk-around/travel a lot or do landscapes /panoramas, this lens is a must have.

Cons: None
Pros: Nice fast f1.8 for low light and bokeh production Solid build with no play Fast accurate focusing Classic Zeiss color and contrast Surgically sharp
Summary: This lenses reputation has long made it highly regarded, and for a good reason. Few lenses attain this level of sharpness and contrast let alone accurate reliable focusing. The build quality is top flight as well. It is an ideal low weight on a A7RII type body as well. Suitable for so many purposes. I've seen some minor criticisms of this lens a few sites what I consider rather unwarranted. It is about as close to perfection as it gets, and the 55mm focal length makes for an ideal walk around many times. A lens I doubt I'd ever consider being without in my collection.
