Sony full frame mirrorless system was launched in October 2013, almost five years earlier than rival Canon RF and Nikon Z systems. That difference does matter – now Sony can profit to the full from the top position in this segment. While their competitors are still launching basic optics Sony is spoilt for choice – they can present something original or refresh some device launched several years earlier. Refreshing means of course including the newest technologies – small wonder their lenses are physically lighter and smaller while being optically as good as their predecessors, sometimes even better.

The Sony FE 24-70 mm f/2.8 GM II is a good example of such strategy. After its official launch you will get the smallest and the lightest lens of this class in the market. As its optical system features many special glass elements, this model is able to fulfill contemporary standards and high demands set by professional photographers across the globe.

If it wasn't enough, the latest Sony novelties present a visible progress when it comes to the performance of the focusing mechanism. Most often you deal with an autofocus based on several efficient XD motors so the focusing process is as quick as a flash and very precise. Recording a video or taking photos with such an instrument is a real joy. The Sony FE 24-70 mm f/2.8 GM II is a very good example of such a trend – its autofocus performs even better than that of its predecessor and that older lens, after all, also raised the bar at the time.

To sum up our first impressions are very positive; of course a comprehensive assessment of the new Sony lens will be possible only when its final specimen arrives to our office and goes through our full testing procedure. To be honest we can hardly wait...
