Cons: Does NOT like focusing in low light -- quite a surprise for a 2.8 prime! Lens collar is an additional $125 and the hood $40 -- more contempt for customers from Canon.
Pros: Fantastically sharp. Fast focusing (except in low light, where it hunts endlessly), not too heavy and well balanced. Quiet. A wonderful lens to use.
Summary: Does what a lens should do: give you excellent images. Save your money: skip the L replacement and get this one (or buy the superb Zeiss 2/100 Makro: brighter image and they include the hood).

Cons: None
Pros: Sharpness (even wide open), no distortion, very low CA, USM, full time manual focus, low vignetting, price
Summary: Best bang for the buck if you want a 1:1 macro for your EOS

Cons: None except for lack of anti-shake ... but since I use a tripod it really doesn't matter.
Pros: Extremely sharp lens, especially for macro work
Summary: If it isn't a Consumer Reports best buy it certainly should be.

Cons: AF sometimes not perfect in macro situations (but manual focussing is used anyway in most situations); AF not as fast as other USMs; some vignetting at high apertures
Pros: Good build quality; almost flawless image quality
Summary: Great 1:1 macro lens
