1. Introduction
With continually expanding segment of amateur reflex cameras, offers of megazoom lenses from different companies get better and better. Just a few years ago we could choose mainly between lenses with the focal length starting at 17-18 mm and ending at 70-135 mm. Then the manufacturers went one step further and lenses of the 18-200 mm class started to appear on the market. What’s interesting, most of them were quite good optically and they had picture stabilization systems to boot.
We didn’t have to wait long for the next move because the 200 mm barrier for the maximum focal length was soon broken. Such companies as Pentax, Sigma and Tamron presented lenses of that class. The last firm is actually a leader here because it can offer two instruments of that class – an 18-270 VC model, already tested by us, and an AF 18-250 mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical (IF), which is going to be tested right now.

What’s interesting, the18-250 mm model, although without picture stabilization system and with narrower focal lengths range, is just 80 $ cheaper than the 18-270 VC lens. Maybe its relatively high price is the result of good optical properties? Let’s find out!
