User profile: Semipro
Cons: Pronounced vignetting (\"clipped corners\") at large apertures; 4:3 crops recommended. Some backward field curvature. Some coma.
Pros: Exceptional contrast and very good sharpness wide open. Very good flare resistance. Low distortion, low CA, very little fringing. Excellent handling.
Summary: The lens manufacturing quality is outstanding. Optically, it is not perfect, but will deliver clean, sharp, contrasty, in one word punchy images (of the in-focus parts) even at wide apertures. Bokeh is average but, given the amount of blur, subject isolation is remarkable. The 1/3 aperture stops are helpful to dispense the reasonable amount of blur. Coma is a bit disappointing. Night lights may generate some halos, but these will disappear by f/1.6. Lens usability is enhanced by its reasonable mass, compact size (62mm filter mount), and excellent handling. All this makes this lens extremely useful, and fun to use. A perfect pair with the Nikon Zf.
