Overall

Price: £85

Cons: Not the toughest construction; slightly noisy in operation but not a real issue; edge sharpness can be soft, as expected from design. Prices rising as more find its merits.
Pros: Full marks for optical quality with centre sharpness; easy to handle; colour rendition and contrast provide striking results to satisfy the discerning.
Summary: Excellent stable mate with original EF 50mm F1.8 Mk1 for prime quality results at a sensible price. Ideal for street work or travel needs - light and compact. A 'keeper' lens worth every penny.

Cons: plastic construction, severe chromatic aberration, color fringing corner to corner sharpness is weak (improves by f5.6) noisy AF motor focus ring feels flimsy.
Pros: Great center sharpness at all apertures, good contrast and color reproduction, no flare issues, fast autofocus, has distance scale, focus ring (unlike 50mm f1.8) affordable price
Summary: this is a great prime lens to go with the 50mm f1.8
