Cons: miraculous lens, at 18 mm visible chromatic aberrations
Pros: at 35mm f 4-5,6 very sharp, even in the corners, nice colours, at 45mm good results stopped down to f8, and at 55mm best results if stopped down to f 11
Summary: good set lens with weekness in extreme wide angle, godd sharpness, when stopping down more and more with growing focus

Cons: CA (widest/wide apertures) and barrel distortion 18-24mm.
Pros: Contrary to previous reviewer, this lens DOES have IF ; the front filter/hood doesn't spin. Just weighed my lens (minus caps): 202grams +/-. My copy has silver cosmetic barrel ring, not green. The lens: pleasing colour, decent micro-contrast for a 'kit' lens. Build and IQ seem to me a bit better than Canon DSLR kit lens and much much better than the dreadful Sony kit lenses, sold with DSLR/NEX etc.
Summary: A good lens for price. A credit to Pentax's K-m (basic DSLR) offering. Retains certainly, the Pentax signature look to images.

Cons: Slow AF No internal focus, so lenshood turn when focussing Problems with AF when there is less light
Pros: Very sharp Much depht-of-field Lightweight Steel frame Good grip on lens Quick-shift focus Small focussing distance
Summary: This Pentax SMC kitlens is excellent for Amateur photographers, and even for Semi-pro users. It is very sharp and have excellent optical quality, no chromatic abberations and pincushion... I use this lens sinds 2008, and I love it still, I bought a Tamron too, the difference is big!

Cons: Sharpness at 18mm
Pros: Fantastic build quality for a kit lens. I handled with Canon's kit lens a few days ago and it feels like a toy in comparison. This pentax lens is smooth, solid, doesn't wobble. Optical quality is also superb for a kit lens. Well done.
Summary: Best kit lens on the market? I don't know but I would guess it's definitely up there!
