Cons: The ergonomics on the auto versus manual focus is the old style locked ring design. It works, but requires can't easily be done holding the camera to the eye. Uses camera's focus motor, which means some of the newer model cameras cannot autofocus.
Pros: Super optics. It is with out a doubt the sharpest Nikon lens I own. The Defocus control is great for softening up the background or foreground of a shot. Nice bokeh too. It's an all-metal lens; even the built-in lens hood is metal. Pull it out and a quick twist and it is locked.
Summary: This is a superb portrait lens and a great general purpose "short" telephoto. The defocus control is great and really helps throw the background (or foreground) nicely out of focus, without having to shoot wide open.

Cons: When changing to MF you should switch on lens and camera, it is the old style.
Pros: Optical quality is superb. Best I have seen, and sharper then the Nikon 105 micro. The DC can be use for out off focus area's, which gives a small but noticeble change. I also use it for macro with extension tubes, great results and better then with a sold Sigma 105 macro.
Summary: Best lens I own (out off some 10 pro lenses). A littlebit expensive, but still excellent value for money.
