Cons: relatively high linear distortion on full-frame

Pros: nice range; sharp to the corners at all focal-lengths, stops, and focus distances on full frame; reasonably compact and light compared with the alternatives; reasonably fast throughout the zoom range; close minimum focus; fast AF

Summary: an excellent zoom of useful range for both DX and FX formats, which is unfortunately no longer made (I suspect that "eyespize" has a defective sample, since the two I've owned at least equalled the excellent 24mm f2.8 Nikkor)

Cons: Not the sharpest in the wide end.

Pros: Very nice range both on film/FX and DX, quiet and ultra fast AF-S, excellent sharpness, nice colours and very good contrast from 40mm, good in the wider areas. Close focus. Very nice to carry around the whole day, good built quality. Quite fast for a "comsumer" zoom.

Summary: Great all-round lens, but if you need optimun picture quality in the wide area, not the best.
