1. Introduction

The Canon company, contrary to Nikon, have never exactly been spoiling the owners of reflex cameras with the APS-C sensor. Even now its line-up of EF-S mount devices remains quite modest. The same is true when it comes to the megazooms: there are in fact only two such devices available, the 18-135 mm and the 18-200 mm. The first was launched in 2009 and roughly around the same time reflex cameras started to be equipped with movie modes so that old lens, without any special motor, was bound to perform rather weakly. In 2012 Canon decided to launch the EF-S 18–135 mm f/3.5–5.6 IS STM with a silent STM motor which was supposed to deal equally well with taking the photos and registering videos.

Because we lacked processing capacities that lens wasn’t tested by us right after its launch; still as we are aware that segment of lenses enjoys unwavering popularity among our Readers we decided to catch up as soon as possible.

We would like to thank Canon Poland for lending us the lens for our tests.
