Price: 180 USD
User profile: Professional
Cons: Very heavy, long focus throw, a bit soft wide open, large filter diameter meaning expensive filters.
Pros: Very good optical performance after f/4, interesting star shaped flares, very close focus (20cm), clickless aperture, almost no distortion at all (and that is what makes that lens really special), neutral color rendition giving absolute control in contrasty scenes.
Summary: One of the most versatile lenses ever. A real gem for use with full frame digital cameras and a perfect wide for the film. Make sure you get one without faults (scratches, fungus).

Cons: A bit heavy, looks big on my mirrorless, flare hard to control sometimes.
Pros: Very good image quality, almost zero distortions, neutral contrast, easy and accurate focus
Summary: A very nice lens. Wide, with minimal distortion, a characteristic flare and great image quality. It is a bit expensive, but you get more you are paying for.

Cons: Very good Image Quality, character, ultra low distortion
Pros: Heavy, somewhat big for a 28mm lens, long focus through but dead accurate
Summary: One of my favourite lenses. It is not as fast as my F2 Nikkor 28mm lens, but it is of its own kind. Although a wide angle lens it delivers photos with a quite prominent 3d effect. It is of average contrast meaning that on digital one can easily manipulate the images without blowing shadow/highlight details. The only drawbacks is its weight and its tendency to flare.

Cons: Very good image quality, smooth and accurate focusing, great build, rather unique character.
Pros: Huge lens, flares easily.
Summary: It is not the best 28mm lens, but one of the best for sure. It would had been my favorite M42 wide if it was any smaller.

Cons: A bit too soft for my liking, low contrast & prone to flare.
Pros: Nice colour rendering (not oversaturated), very close focus. Built like a brick: useful for self-defense!
Summary: You get what you pay for. It was my first wide in M42, and have since moved "up" to a Mamiya SX in this focal length. Not a "bad" lens by any means, and I still use it when I want a soft look. Good for close portraiture. Also good for IR on my adapted XSi.
