Cons: Platic Mount. f5.6 @ long end
Pros: Great range. Fast quiet autofocus. Image quality excellent in everyday use- i have not used charts or experiment shots
Summary: Great value lens that is exceptional value for the price when you consider the focal range and image quality. It is not a lens you could abuse due build but that should not be an issue for most

Cons: Requires cautious handling because of its plastic mount flanges. My 55-200 f/4-5.6 (admittedly, a fairly awful lens) with plastic mount broke when my closed camera bag fell off the desk while the lens was mounted on the camera. Fragile.
Pros: Much better image quality than you would expect from a lens with plastic mount. Much better. Everything about it is pretty good except for the mount. Sharp. Very useful zoom range from wide angle coverage to moderate telephoto. Polycarbonate is both light weight and dimensionally stable.
Summary: I bought this for my home camera walk-around use. I also use it professionally for studio portraits and outdoor events. My work lens is the great Nikon 24-70 f/2.8, a lens by which I can justifiably compare all other lenses. The 18-105 is much nicer to carry around because of its light weight and very good IQ.

Cons: The lens has optical disadvantages at the extremes of its range (see real testing results for this). It does feel cheap with the plastic and the focus ring (I do focus manually regularly) does not feel professional.
Pros: It is a light, versatile lens that can give very sharp images. Value for money is super.
Summary: I avoided kit lenses from reading comments on the internet, this lead to annoying others by having to change lens a lot and having to move position all the time in this focal range. So I bought this cheaper lens for when I did not care and the others did. Well this lens surprised me and it can be used in the area of 27-40mm when you care, outside of that 90% of the people will not see the issues and when you take your frame a bit larger and then corp it you get really good results. The plastic makes it light, which is great. I still tend not to not use this lens for artistic pictures or very fast action, but it makes my DSLR a lot more usable in casual occasions.

Cons: Heavy, large, quite bad sharpness near the edges of the frame.
Pros: Great performance for a kit lens, quite useable zoom range, VR saves a couple of stops when light goes down.
Summary: This one had been the lens that came as a kit with my D90. It performs good enough for amateurs, but soon one will go looking for some better performer. It is not worth buying it alone unless you get a ridiculously low price for it.

Cons: Too much plastic. It's the only lens I have, so I do not have to worry about the weak bayonet.
Pros: The sharpest lens I ever had. Gives superb image quality on the D3200.
Summary: Value for money is incredible.

Cons: Plastic bajonet, wish to have this lens with a metal one. Still no damage to the plastic material, be careful when changing lenses. At 18 mm along the edge and corners not really sharp, at the long end full open less contrast.
Pros: Lightweight, excellent VR, useful range.
Summary: Underestimated lens by consumers, better than 18-70, 18-135 (huge vignetting and who wants to correct every image in PS?),. Good range, up to now no problems with the plastics, VR after taken at least 20.000 shots. Not prone to dust. (My 18-70 had dust inside) Put this lens on your camera and let the fun begin.

Cons: Flare. Horrendous, uncorrectable flare at all settings even with the sun far out of shot. Heavy distortion VR not as good as expected
Pros: Very sharp Quite light Great range
Summary: Not sure why so many people are rating the optical quality is low. I find this lens to be very sharp, if you compare the reviews between this and the 17-55 f2.8 nikkor, it doesn't come off too badly. Also, build quality is not good, but for the price range it is more than acceptable. Being a mountain photographer I gladly accept the lighter weight. Biggest problem is the flare when using outside; as soon as the sun comes near the corner of a shot, it'll land streaks and blobs all over the frame. It could do with a much better / bigger lens hood. I find this a convenient all round lens, especially for mountain / landscape / hiking photography. The distortion and vignetting problems are easily cured, but the flare completely destroys images. If this problem could be solved in a version 2, I would buy it in an instant, and would probably not need another lens.

Cons: Very bad build quality. Everything rattles. Very weak plastic mount, inappropriate for such a "heavy lens" and easily breaks (mine broke twice). Significant distortion at low end. Optical quality degrades at 105mm. It focuses quite slow. No (semi)macro capabilities (magnification of only 1:5); cannot be used with macro rings.
Pros: Good zoom range. Low cost. Reasonable optical quality.
Summary: Good walk-around lens that comes in a kit with some Nikon DSLRs. I would not buy it separately - there are better alternatives, although the zoom range is quite appealing.

Cons: Poorly built, plastic bayonet is known to break easily
Pros: VR, very convenient focal length range, passable image quality
Summary: A convenient lens just a step above the cheaper kit lenses, but somewhat poorly-built and image quality is nothing more than acceptable.

Cons: notevole perdita progressiva di qualità a tutte le focali da f 7,1 a f16. discreta perdita di qualità ai bordi alle massime aperture, soprattutto da 24 a 105 mm. Autofocus non molto veloce e un pò rumoroso.
Pros: Leggerezza, basso prezzo, estensione focale.
Summary: buona lente tuttofare.

Cons: Vigneting @ f8 in the long focal length.
Pros: High quality lens regarding optical quality @ f8 f11. Very low weight for mountain photography and long walks. The longer focal lengths are very useful for real landscape photography. True 3 stops at short focal lengths and 2 stops at longer focal lengths of benefit using VR. Very useful with small tripods.
Summary: A very good lens for pragmatic photographers in rough terrain and long walks.

Cons: Reasonably high distorsion at 18mm, plastic lens mount
Pros: Good zoom range, very good from 24mm to 105mm, effective image stabilisation.
Summary: I bought the 18-105mm after having a play with the 18-55 non-VR lens. I was looking for the 18-70mm lens but these are fairly scarce. I must say I am impressed with this lens. It isn't perfect but does make a good compromise between usability, size and quality. Overall it is very good value and execeptional if get it bundled in with a camera. I found the IQ to be at least as good, if not better than the 18-55mm but there isn't much in it. I like the focus ring not rotating which just ruins the 18-55 lenses. Distorstion is a little higher than ideal at 18mm but is reasonable at other focal lengths. It is easy enough to correct in CS5 anyway. It would be nice to have a slightly faster lens but that would add to the cost, size and weight. The VR is very effective and the close focus at 105mm is reasonable. I find the lens very sharp and the AF accurate. It would be nice to have a distance scale for MF but the MF still works fine.

Cons: plastic bayonet; it's a cheap lens so I wouldn't expect too much from it - feels exactly the same as other lenses within this price range; some distortion at 18mm, but again - no worse than other cheap lenses
Pros: sharp! it's a killer - miles better than other lenses, especially Nikkor 18-200, Tamron 18-270 or Sigma (I have compared them myself) ! also, great range makes it fantastic walkaround lens, superb stabilization
Summary: Excellent lens for the price - you can't get any better walkaround lens

Cons: Slow AF(like 18-55),sometimes AF misses, distortion, it could have bigger sunshade, plastic bayonet(maybe just for better feeling), bad MF focus-MF ring is too loose, some vignetting, too long the shortest focus distance
Pros: Focal range, good ghost and flare resistance, instant MF, good function of VR, sharp wide open, no zoom creep
Summary: Optically it is little bit weaker than 18-55II / VR but with great focal range. It is good all-around lens when you count in its price.
