Cons: 1) Not weather sealed 2) Zoom creep beginning from about 40mm onwards
Pros: 1) unparalleled focal length 2) extremely effective image stabilisation 3) excellent center sharpness throughout, very good corner sharpness wide open, excellent overall stopped down to f/5.6. 4) decent enough maximum aperture (surely not on the \'fast\' side, but good enough to be used even for astro with a bit of good technique) 5) Vignetting and chromatic abberations are there, yet by no means pronounced.
Summary: A dream as a walk-around lens. The difference between 15mm and 18mm is very noticable and opens a whole new world of possibilities. The only real downside for me is the lack of weather sealing, because this lens will often be used for landscapes or seascapes in rather unwelcoming conditions. If the narrow aperture is not a limiting factor, you can\'t go wrong with this lens.

Cons: Distortions, slow, pretty heavy in comparison to mostly light EF-S bodies.
Pros: Nice range for all kinds of photography
Summary: One of the best allround lenses for EF-S

Pros: build quality, zoom range, small focus distance
Summary: good value especially because UV filter and lens hood were included in the price. I bought a used lense.

Cons: For the price it can be better build as dust is definitely a problem. Slow speed lens not suitable for low-light conditions. Vignetting is visible on some F-stops at widest-angle.
Pros: Very good general purpose lens. Produces very good and sharp images when lighting is good & outdoors.
Summary: Lens with very good range but can be better built for its price. Very sharp and with good range for outdoor shooting.

Cons: price, aperture, vignetting, min. focus-distance, quality fall off at the long end, no L-qualtiy for the price still
Pros: perfectly versatile zoom length, sharpness right off, IS
Summary: I got the lens together with my 7D and it´s a perfect match. The first ever lens I really used for 80% of the time, so a real "always on". After a longer holiday I found the vignetting very problematic. Not only at wide open aperture but also at f/8 at mid zoom range (25 to 50mm) and mostly on the left top corner. I sent the lens in for repair twice. It couldn´t be repaired, if you search on the net there are a few that have this specific problem. In the end I returned the lens and am now looking for a replacement. But it´s hard to find something that versatile!

Cons: Aperture is the biggest problem. wish it was constant F4 or F2.8. Works very well with 7D. Had won problem when traveling. Left lens attached to camera body in camera bag and the lens body broke away from the mount. Sent it to Canon and they said it had been dropped and charged me $160 for repair. I couldn't prove otherwise and I need the lens so I paid. Repair was well executed and the lens seems better than before.
Pros: Good, versatile lens. Wide angle is pretty good and the zoom length is just right. Works well for outdoor shots and weddings.
Summary: If you use the APS format this is a must have lens. It's very close to L quality.

Cons: Expensive lens if purchased new. Dust sealing could be better, had lens serviced/cleaned and after 2 outings dust is visible inside.
Pros: Great focal range, perfect walk around/travel lens. Optics very good, nice sharp clean images.
Summary: Well suited to 550D

Cons: Expensive, but it is good for its price. Canon should replace some plastic parts with metal. Crop only.
Pros: If it is not ef-S, I would like to buy it with red stripe and "L" letter! I use it everyday and everywhere for high quality pictures of people and landscapes too.
Summary: Must have!

Cons: Variable aperture, doesn't include a lens hood.
Pros: Build quality, very sharp, excellent AF, tremendous range, IS works very well.
Summary: For a walkaround lens you have to make a trade... reach or speed. If you want a very fast lens, this isn't it. If you want a wide zoom range with excellent IQ, nothing could be better on an APS-C camera. This is both wider and longer than any alternative that can come close to the IQ... assuming you have enough light.

Cons: Expensive. My copy also had really bad asymmetrical vignetting. It was sharp, but the vignette made it unusable. I exchanged it for another copy which also had the problem. After this I gave up and moved on
Pros: Extremely sharp. Fast focusing. Amazing IS.
Summary: Sharp lens with a very useful range and great IS. Just make sure you get a good copy and check for decentering and asymmetrical vignette problems, quality control issues.

Cons: Quite expensive ! 72mm filters, i would prefer 67mm as the 70-200 f4 ... but i like its 15mm possibility.
Pros: Range : 15-85mm *1.6 on my 7D. Sharpnesss is very good. The construction and in particular the zoom ring is nice. The AF is quick and silent. IS is efficient and helpful.
Summary: A very nice lens with a huge potential !

Cons: - I only took it out for 2 short trips, and found there are some dust get in... - The silver ring around the lens is just a paper sticker, can u believe it? - I think the lens I purchased should not pass the QC, because the right side of the image is obvious softer than the left side. Same problem like fotofan_1's. - Obvious CA that often cannot be removed by DPP or ALR - No lens hood included, like always - Expensive as a silver ring lens
Pros: - IS works very well. - very sharp in the center of the image
Summary: Need great luck to get a good lens of this model.

Cons: Significant decentering issues. Visibly and measurably (by filesize) less sharpness and contrast in right half of picture than cheap and good value kit lens EF-S 18-55 IS.
Pros: Great zoom range
