Cons: longer throw for focus when going from macro to portraits lengths or vice versa but this is to be expected.

Pros: wonder IQ. Very sharp focus. Fantastic flexibility to have a macro lens also perform so well as a portrait lens.

Summary: very happy with my purchase. Looking forward to many years of enjoyment

Cons: Lacks a tripod socket - why? The Canon aftermarket one is outrageously priced. IS hums noticeably on mine - something I haven't noticed in any of the reviews.

Pros: Top optical quality; IS makes it a useful general telephoto prime; 100mm focus length provides sufficient distance between subject and lens.

Summary: First choice as a macro for any Canon owner, I'd say

Cons: Subpar build quality for a L lens.

Pros: Very effective IS. Very fast AF for a macro lens.

Summary: It's one of the most versatile lenses I own. It's very good at macro and tele distances and the stabiliser works very well. The all-plastic construction doesn't feel very solid and the focus ring have a (very!) little play. It's not weather-sealed until you attach a filter. CA is low, but sometimes it's visible (and it's much worse than on the 100 macro non-IS). Anyway, it's hardly noticeable on the vast majority of the shots.

Pros: about anything: image quality, weather sealing, IS, ring USM, 1:1 macro.

Summary: Very nice lens for portraits and macro on both APS-C and full frame cameras.

Cons: Well if you want you can say that it's made out of plastic, and focusing from end to end will take some time. And sometimes auto focus starts ”wrong way” with my old and cheap camera body.

Pros: Image Stabilization, Sharpness, Auto focus generally.

Summary: I don't have tons of experience whit L glass, but I think that this is my favorite one from those I use. Overall I'm rather pleased for value for my money. Yes it's plastic but still rather solid feeling and I'm just happy when I can save some weight from my shoulders.

    Cons: Personally "NONE"

Pros: Optics are Fantastic. Distance focusing is Superior because of three way switch. Waterproof is top notch. Hybrid focusing system really works

Summary: I love this lens, first of all becaus it is sharper then my 35mm f1.4 L prime, second because it can and should be used for Portrait work. And any thing else you can throw at it like Food, Studio and Jewelery work. The detail brought out by the 1:1 Magnification is Simple Stunning. I have read to many complaints about the Plastic Body....including from some Top Professionals. Please Please get over your sevles here. The Body is amazing well thought out and and the build quality is there. I believe Canon not only saved weight but also cost saving passed on to us. I am using mine on a 7D, bring the range to 160mm because of the crop sensor. this is my Third "L" glass and love them all. I find them uniquely different in purpose but the same in color output. I am so happy I didn't get the Non-L version here.

Cons: Focusing is slow sometimes, but this is common with macro lenses. Build quality not up to L standards (but not bad at all)

Pros: Excellent sharpness and colors. No CA or distortions. Excellent bokeh for a macro lens (simmilar to 135 f/2). Amazing IS (sharp photos at 1/4s.)

Summary: One of the best L lenses both in terms of overall IQ and price/quality ratio. Must have.
