Cons: after two or more years' fairly use there is a slight nick in the weather sealing rubber about 0.4mm wide that could potentially be fixed but i use it in the rain where necessary despite no known probs to date. heavy i guess; and large (especially with hood) - but nothing that is objectively of consequence against the image quality and usability of the af and fast 2.8 and gorgeous bokeh.
Pros: lovely bokeh, lovely colours; v sharp, fast for a zoom and IS is effective (and quiet if not silent), af-5/5, mf-11/5! edges of the frame are v good indeed. stops down a fair way keeping reasonable sharpness. good quality locking lens hood. excellent build quality: mine has taken many many minor/moderate nocks never needed af adjustments on any of 7d1/6d/5d1/5d3.
Summary: perfect; if you shoot subjects unobtrusively from a distance and sometimes in low light this is complete and utter mega awesomeness. the IS will let you shoot 200mm shots 4/5 of the time pin sharp at 1/15sec and f/2.8 is very useable across the frame. love this lens. useable 140-400/5.6 with 2x extender ii though iq suffers a little still v okay, on 7d with extender vv close!

Cons: Weight, but then again....
Pros: Sharp! Over the top build!
Summary: I skipped 2 primes (85mm 1.8 and 200mm 2.8) as well as my 100-400 to get this one. And I have NO regrets at all. Absolutely brillant!

Cons: No kidding it really is heavy. It is the only lens that I own where I can feel a bit of "play" with the way the lens fits on the body. I actually feel a bit uncomfortable carrying the of it around with just one hand on the camera body. I use a mark iii 5d.
Pros: Incredible images. Image stabilization....wow....I hear and see all these comments about how people should use tripos or use stabilizers with a telephoto lens of the length. Well I would have to say that, I cannot shoot hand held video without tripod or stabilizer on any of my L lenses except my 24 - 105 IS. Let me tell you that a hand held 200mm video is stable enough to not have to add a stabilization through after effects. Simply incredible, I am truly stunned!
Summary: Great lens. Costs a fortune. People are always saying, go with the 70 - 200 f 4.0 L. It's lighter and more affordable, yes, but that's where the comparisons end. Read the lenstip review if you don't believe me. Don't be convinced that there is something out there that is as good or almost as good as this lens. As of april 2004, it isn't true.

Cons: Hefty price but you get what you pay for and this is top quality. Heavy lens but that's what you get for close to perfection.
Pros: Build Quality. Outstanding optically. Accurate and fast zoom.
Summary: As close to a perfect zoom lens as we will see for many years. Quality as good as the best primes.

Cons: It's white, a little heavy but not really a problem, once you use this lens you forget that all others are not of the same build or image quality, you get the feeling your other lenses get a little jealous of the love you feel for this lens (j/k)
Pros: Sharp from f/2.8, amazing IS,
Summary: A great lens that puts most others to shame.

Cons: Heavy 1.2m minimum focusing distance
Pros: Very sharp. I have no doubt when using this lens. Best quality zoom ever have.
Summary: Love this lens the most in my collection. The only winner may be 85mm 1.2 L when I need larger aperture, or 24-70 2.8 L when I need to shoot people on the same dining table.
