Cons: Can take far better pictures with stabilized f 3.5 18-55 kit lens indoors. Even then it's not very sharp.
Pros: It's compact and substantially wider than the 18-55 lens. It also can use the wide angle and fish eye adapter which are fairly inexpensive. It's good for landscapes.
Summary: It's a good lens when you want your NEX to fit in a pocket. Don't expect to take good indoor pictures under normal light especially if the subject is moving. Don't ever take it to the beach or the focus will get stiff from sand in it. It really doesn't take much exposure for this to happen.

Cons: the corner performance is rather poor especially at f/2.8 and f/4. The fairly heavy amount of lateral CAs isn't helpful
Pros: produces a slight amount of pincushion distortion (~0.6%) which is usually not objectionable in field conditions. At f/8 it is working very good all over the image field.
Summary: At the price I had to pay in bundle with NEX-5 it is a bargain. However Panasonic shows that it could be made way better with it's Lumix G F1,7/ 20 mm

Cons: * Clearely not the sharpest lens on the market. ** Interrestingly Image quality is MUCH Better on the nex-5n than others (nex-5 and nex-7 for instance) Especially on borders, it is really fine in the center, the reason is the microlenses arrangement on the 5n sensor is differents which yields much better quality on borders.
Pros: * Very Light. ** on nex-5n with the auto corrections and better sensor this lens is quite good even @ f/2.8 !. *** The debate about this lens is really rediculus, it is the only 16mm you can put on a NEX, and it is AF (fast AF by the way), and beleive it or not I have tons of great photos and panoramas done with this lens. **** Finally This lens has a unique capacity, in fact a NEX + 16mm is really a compact system with magnificiant IQ you can slip in a pocket without pain, a great tool you can take everywhere (no way to do that with a DSLR and a 16mm Lens !!!) debate is closed !
Summary: A lens to have just to be able to put the system in you pocket, and take it with you all the time. It is not a work tool, nor a professionnal Lens, but hey to my knowledge this is the BEST system (speaking of IQ) you can put in your pocket, so for me there is no question it is a good lens to have, and it is really cheap too.

Cons: electronic MF ring is a pain..like on all similar lenses.
Pros: nice fun lens, descent IQ and fastness for a Kitlens, low cost(if bought as kit) ..its the best lens for sweep-panorama images on the NEX as its the only one that allows up to 270degree turns. also a practical note: the lens has just a very tiny front lens which is harder to accidently catch rain etc. so its basicly the lens i need to clean the least
Summary: a good to have lens, not for everyday use but still usefull. ..recommended - dont really get why people use this place for philosophical statements about the usefullness of the NEX in generall..

Cons: 16mm limited functionality, singular purpose Controls require significant learning curve and owner's manual With a sensible lens, camera is as large a normal DSLR Form over function by design Hype
Pros: Nicely built, Solid Fun Features Excellent photo results when used properly
Summary: Camera purchased to photograph business related objects and locations. 16mm lens produces way too much distortion. With the more practical available lenses, realistically this camera is the same size or larger than a normal sized DSLR camera. By design it is classic form over function marketing fueled by hype. Slap your face a couple of times to clear your mind before purchasing this camera without considering your other choices.
