Cons: none
Pros: Sharp, contrasty, wonderful rendering, flare resistant
Summary: highly recommended

Cons: CA wide open, construction, sombrero effect at 1.4 (mid frame sharper than center), slowish AF
Pros: contrast is amazing even with the sun in the frame, nothing short of great from f2 with great homogeneity, bokeh
Summary: a very nice lens if you manage the focus precision, but considering the price the sombrero effect is really annoying. Find a used one or buy a Sigma instead

Cons: AF not as fast as the AF from the 70-200 II but VERY accurate.
Pros: This lens is sharp, sharp, sharp already from f1.4 on. From f/2.0 on the corner sharpness is fantastic. Bokeh and contrast are on a very high level. I came from Canon and don't regret this step.
Summary: A true gem of a lens.

Cons: LoCA, would need a bit more sharpness in the center wide open, a bit plasticky feeling (but I can guarantee it won't give up as easily as genotypewriter thinks)
Pros: Sharpness incredible stopped down and very good to great between f/1.4 and f/2.8
Summary: If you ask yourself if you really need this lens... then you don't need it (maybe the D version instead).

Cons: - plastic cover feels horrible - somehow very cheap made - significant (!!!) loCA @ f/1.4 - f/2.8, which cannot be corrected in Capture NX2. no ED glass element. loCA really make some of my pictures professionally unusable.
Pros: * very sharp with smooth bokeh, but only minimal better then 70-200 VRII * precise AF and manual focus.
Summary: If I had the choice again, I woudn't spend my money on this lens.

Cons: Accurate AF, very good IQ, nice bokeh, build quality
Pros: Not the fastest AF
Summary: Very nice portrait lens Even on the D3x it performs very good

Cons: Build quality is terrible. Feels like it's made of thin plastic and can break easily upon a reasonable impact.
Pros: Optics are very very good for a lens of this type especially in the corners, but the center resolution could be better.
Summary: Here's a direct comparison of the Canon 85 1.2L II vs. the 85 1.4G, both on a 5D Mark II: http://www.flickr.com/photos/genotypewriter/5057691550/ More observations and conclusions in there in detail.
