I suppose all of us remember the painful slip-up of the Tokina 11-16 mm f/2.8 II in this category. Small wonder we were very curious how the Tokina 12-28 mm f/4.0 would perform here. Glancing at photos below you can find out that the situation is not as bad as in the case of the Tokina 11-16 mm but still there is little to be proud of. The fact that you can catch light artifacts even when the sun is a dozen- several dozen degrees outside the frame is especially painful.
The biggest problems you will have at 12 mm focal length - in its case, no matter what aperture you use and no matter whether the sun is inside the frame or far away from it, the flares always appear very often. At 20 mm focal length the situation improves noticeably. When you work at the maximum relative aperture there is little ghosting. On stopping down you have to face a significant decrease of contrast across the frame with the sun situated just outside the frame corner. At the maximum focal length the situation is similar to that at 20 mm.
