Sigma 50-150 mm f/2.8 APO EX DC HSM
4. Image resolution
Performance at 50 mm is exceptionally good. The lens gives razor-sharp images even at wide-open aperture and is comparable to best prime lenses. At 100 mm it is almost as good - only at f/2.8 seems slightly worse.
Image resolution at 150 mm focal length gave us a reason to complain. At f/2.8 it was just average, at f/4 it became significantly better and at f/5.6 it was very good.

What about image quality at borders (70% from the center)? The answer can be found in the figure shown below. For focal length of 50 mm resolution is again exceptional. For 100 mm it is average, similar to standard zoom lens. For 150 mm is much below our expectations.
As we can see Sigma 50-150 mm behaves very similar to Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 Macro, which produced very sharp images at 70 mm both in the center and borders, good at 135 mm and disappointed us at 200 mm because of poor borders and poor image resolution at wide-open aperture.
Below one can find sample crops from our test chart shown in JPEG format (these are only examples, remember that for measuring resolution we used RAW files).
