I've mentioned time and again in many places that I do hope one day Sigma line-up will feature a series of shapely, sensibly priced primes designed for full frame and as fast as f/1.8-2.0. Until recently big and heavy Art series f/1.2-1.4 lenses seemed to be a priority of this Japanese producer. The newest launches, though, show that the situation has changed a bit.
The Sigma's approach also means we get lenses that are a tad cheaper than brand name instruments but mechanically better, and optically the same or even better as well. It is a very sensible strategy and has every chance to be successful. Still, everything depends on optical properties. I'm looking forward to getting final versions of newest products, announced by this company – I will start testing them immediately and, of course, I will share the results with my Readers.
