Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX 18-70 mm f/3.5-4.5 IF-ED
4. Image resolution
For all focal lengths with a wide open aperture, the MTF50 values reach 35 lpmm, which is a very good score. For a 18-30 mm focal length, when stopping down the lens, the results are fabulous. For f/5.6 we reached up to 44 lpmm. The end of the range is not so fantastic, since at 50-70 mm we receive a lower resolution of 38 lpmm, which is not a bad result at all. Why do we have such a situation that the picture resolution is lower for 50-70 mm focal lengths? We will try to explain in the summary.

The resolution at the edges of the field is not as excellent as at the center. Much better results are achieved at 18-30 mm than at 50-70 mm. These resolution results here, however, are not first-class, just average.
In summation, the Nikkor performed very well in this category. It has a very good picture resolution in the center of the frame, average on the edges of the lens with almost 4x zoom, which is a very good result at a very reasonable price.
