1. Introduction

Small 4/3 or Micro 4/3 format sensor was supposed to facilitate the construction of lenses with parameters unavailable in other systems. Indeed several such lenses have been launched on the market. It’s enough to mention here some journalistic devices like the Olympus 14-35 mm and the 35-100 mm with the aperture of f/2.0 or the Panasonic “pancake” with 1.7/20 parameters.

What’s interesting, the Cosina company has gone the furthest when it comes to extreme parameters, launching the Voigtlander Nokton 25 mm f/0.95. Its focal length allows it to give the same angle of view on the 4/3 Micro sensor as any classic 50 mm device on full frame. It’s sensational aperture of f/0.95 provides not only the same depth of field as f/1.9 on full frame but also (and perhaps most importantly) the possibility of work in conditions unattainable for slower lenses. After all this instrument gathers by 1 EV of light more than classic full frame 1.4/50 lenses.

Undoubtedly it is one of the more interesting novelties which have been presented recently; small wonder as soon as it arrived to our editorial office we decided to test it very swiftly and share the impressions with our Readers.
