Samsung NX 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS

8. Vignetting

As it was done in the test of the Samsung NX 30 mm f/2.0 we must emphasize also here the fact that our measurements were based on RAW files. The Samsung NX10, used in the test, shows substantial differences between RAW and JPEG files – the latter are cropped and show a bit lower brightness loss in the frame corners.

The crops below show test photos’ thumbnails for three focal lengths and aperture values near minimum.

Vignetting is visible to the naked eye but it is also far from bothersome. Its highest level, amounting to 16% (-0.51 EV), can be seen at the widest angle and practically is independent of the value of the aperture used. With the increase of the focal length the vignetting decreases to 11% (−0.33 EV) at 35 mm and 8% (−0.25 EV) at 55 mm. Further stopping down makes the level of vignetting decrease for these focal lengths to 9% and 6% respectively by f/16.0 aperture.
