Tamron SP 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD
11. Summary
- huge and solid barrel,
- very good image resolution in the frame centre,
- good or decent image quality on the edge of the frame,
- low distortion,
- slight coma,
- well-corrected astigmatism,
- imperceptible vignetting on APS-C/DX,
- silent and efficient autofocus.
Cons:
- significant chromatic aberration in the whole focal lengths range,
- image resolution at 300 mm could have been at least a bit better.
The summary of this test can have only a positive overtone. The Tamron SP 70–300 mm f/4–5.6 Di VC USD is a very well-done device with only one major flaw which we can point out - the chromatic aberration. It really could have been at least momentarily lower. The tested lens didn’t have any problems with competing with rival constructions from Canon and Nikon, winning in many categories. The fact that the Tamron is a bit cheaper than those lenses is not without meaning either. The Sigma 70-300 mm OS is even cheaper than the Tamron but it lags behind it especially when it comes to the resolution results. The difference in price is so slight that in this case it is not worth the trouble.
