Nikon Nikkor AF-S 24-70 mm f/2.8G ED
11. Summary
- great quality of casing,
- outstanding image quality in the frame centre at all combinations of focal lengths and apertures,
- good image quality on the edge of the frame from f/4.0 upwards,
- chromatic aberration quite well corrected,
- moderate distortion,
- low astigmatism,
- practical lack of vignetting on the DX sensor,
- silent, as quick as lightning and accurate autofocus.
Cons:
- image quality on the edge of the frame at the maximum aperture should have been better,
- transmission worse than that of competitors,
- huge coma in the full frame corners,
- average work against bright light for this class of equipment.
It will be one of shorter summaries. Nikon undoubtedly offered a splendid instrument to the professionals. If you want to be nasty, though, you might add that the Zeiss gave a better one to the Sony system and Sigma didn’t lag behind with its new 24–70 mm f/2.8 model either – it can put the Nikkor to shame especially with the quality of its anti-reflection coatings. Ending the nastiness you can also write that most of people who will buy the tested Nikkor, won’t have still the slightest reasons to complain about anything.
