Lens review

Nikon Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.8G

10. Autofocus

The tested lens is equipped with an ultrasonic autofocus motor (SWM – Silent Wave Motor). It works practically noiselessly and the focusing speed is good. Running through the whole scale takes about 0.7 of a second which, for this price/quality segment, is a result worth recognition. The speed is perhaps nothing much different than that of its predecessor but certainly the lens works more quietly.

When it comes to the accuracy it seems better in the case of the older model. The number of misses in studio conditions, reached the level of 5%. When it is darker, that number increases but, fortunately, not significantly. For this price segment it would be difficult to have any reservations here.

What’s important the lens didn’t have any front or back focus problems on any of the bodies, used in our test.
