I am hardly a market research expert, I am just a humble tester from a small country which, in the global sale results of the Canon products is most probably situated somewhere close to the very end. Perhaps just because of that fact I can’t understand why somebody working for Canon thought that a 2.8/24 lens with image stabilization, costing 3,000 PLN, will sell better than a f/2.0 lens without that stabilization. Even if you insist on the f/2.8 aperture still the stabilization is something you could easily get by without. It is not necessary at 24 mm focal length even if you shoot movies. Had its lack meant that the price would be reduced to the level of about 2,000 PLN we would have got a very nice successor of the EF 24 mm f/2.8 model which was launched in 1988 so is an elderly construction, begging for a replacement. If, preserving the price near 2,000 PLN point, the company had managed to improve the fastness, making it not necessarily f/2.0 but at least f/2.5, I suppose that kind of construction would have had a lot of takers.

Of course in order to be honest you must emphasize the fact that the Canon EF 24 mm f/2.8 IS USM is a well done construction with an impressive list of serious advantages. However it has several slip-ups. Does the pros to cons ratio, along with the parameters of this lens and its price, will make it a market hit? I don’t know. My task is to deliver the Readers enough data and materials to make their decision-making easier. I only hope I managed to fulfill my duty well.
