Sigma A 30 mm f/1.4 DC HSM

10. Autofocus

The Sigma A 30 mm f/1.4 DC HSM is equipped with an ultrasonic autofocus motor so the mechanism works noiselessly. The speed, though, is nothing exceptional. Running through the whole distance range takes the lens about 0.8 of a second, no matter from what end. Still you can praise the Sigma for good work in weak lightning conditions - the lens had no problems with focusing on a dim diode positioned in a dark room.

When it comes to the accuracy, the previous Sigma didn’t impress us much – it could have from over a dozen to over 20% of misses in studio conditions. The new model fares better here but still there is some room for improvement. The number of misfocused photos reached 9%.

The tested lens, attached to the Canon 50D, didn’t had any noticeable front or back focus tendency and the crop, presented below, shows it very well.
