You can tell at once that you don’t deal here with a „pancake” – the dimensions weren’t here the most important priority so the Samsung 1.8/45 doesn’t have any problems with exceeding 50 lpmm. By f/4.0 and f/5.6 MTFs reach near 51 lpmm. It would be also difficult to complain about the performance at the maximum relative aperture where the lens gets to 38 lpmm. The only thing you can carp about is the visible lack of improvement of the image quality on stopping down in the range from f/1.8 to f/2.0. Fortunately further stopping down makes the image improve very quickly because the MTF50 values, reached by f/2.8, are on a very good level of 48 lpmm.
The performance on the edge of the frame can be praised as well. At the maximum relative aperture the decency level is reached and from f/2.8 upwards we deal with images of good and very good quality.
To sum up Samsung once again proved that they know how to construct good quality optics – the number of efficient NX system lenses has increased once again.
At the end we present crops taken from JPEG files of photos of our resolution testing chart.
