Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18-55 mm f/2.8-4 OIS
10. Autofocus
We don’t have any reservations concerning the speed and the loudness of the mechanism. Running through the whole scale takes about 0.5-0.6 of a second which is a good result.
The old firmware, apart from speed problems, had also some issues with the autofocus sensitivity. If you had to shoot scenes with low contrast or in worse lighting conditions the Fuji didn’t want to set the focus properly although the camera plus lens sets from other companies managed just fine. You had either to look for a fragment with more contrast and reframe the picture or to resign yourself to the manual focusing. After applying the new firmware for the camera and the lens those problems disappeared; now the performance of the Fujinon 18-55 mm doesn’t differ much from that of the best products of its rivals.

There are no issues with the accuracy of the lens. The number of misses in studio conditions reached a symbolic value of 1%. We also didn’t notice any front or back focus tendencies - it can be seen in the photo below.
