A riddle at the beginning of this chapter - look at the photo below. What do you think it presents?
I won’t keep you in the dark any longer. It is a shot against bright light made with the tested Tokina and the Nikon D7000. Mind you the sun is not situated in the frame centre and the parameters of the exposition were by no means tweaked in order to overexpose that photo deliberately, quite the opposite is true. The sun is a bit outside the left-hand upper corner of the frame. If you shift the frame just slightly you get a photo like this.

Already this one example shows pretty well the Tokina’s performance against bright light. With the sun inside the frame you can catch different colourful artifacts of varied intensity and shape without any problem. What’s interesting, the situation gets worse when the source of bright light is moved a bit outside the frame – then you see wide overexposed patches or a radial net of rays, both effects being disastrous for your photo. It is really painful to watch, especially that the Tokina, with less optical elements than the Canon and the Nikkor, had it relatively easy here…
