10. Autofocus

The autofocus performance of the Fujinon 1.2/56 and the X-E1 camera set is very good. The mechanism is quiet (but not completely noiseless) and fast – running through the whole distance scale and finding the focus takes about 0.4-0.5 of a second. We think we noticed a slight difference in the performance which depends on the direction: the focus setting was a tad faster when going from the minimum focusing distance to infinity than the other way round.

The accuracy of the mechanism should be described only in superlatives. Despite its shallow depth of field the lens didn’t miss one single time in studio conditions. A round of applause!

The X-E1 plus the Fujinon 1.2/56 set didn’t have any significant front or back focus problems. In photos taken by f/1.2 we managed to notice a slight focus shift towards object further in the frame but still the focal plane included the proper target as well.
