Fujifilm Fujinon XF 50-140 mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR
6. Distortion
If you want to see how the optics really deals with the distortion you have to develop RAW files using an independent program like e.g. dcraw. The results of such an operation show that the distortion level is noticeable. At 50 mm the problem is still slight because our measurements showed pincushion distortion of +0.51%; still that aberration increases with the increase of the focal lengths reaching +1.28% at 70 mm and +1.54% at 90 mm. At the maximum focal length the distortion is the highest, amounting to +1.95%.
In a case of an expensive, professional lens delegating the distortion correction to the software of the camera is not such a great idea. Some full frame 70-200 mm class rivals of the tested Fujinon proved that the optics is able to correct the distortion very efficiently, reducing it to even imperceptible levels.
