Canon EF 35 mm f/1.4L II USM
10. Autofocus
The speed of the autofocus can hardly bowl you over either. Running through the whole distance scale and finding the focus takes about 0.7-0.8 of a second. It is a result very similar to that of the Sigma A 35 mm f/1.4 DG HSM and noticeably worse than that of its predecessor. An increased range of the ring might be a kind of explanation here – it has to service also distances ranging from 0.28 to 0.30 of a meter, non-existent in both the predecessor and the rivals.
Still we don’t have the slightest reservations concerning the accuracy of the autofocus. In studio conditions it didn’t miss one single time. What’s more, it didn’t show any front or back focus tendencies on both bodies, used by us during our test.
