Tokina AT-X PRO FX SD 24-70 mm f/2.8 (IF)

1. Introduction

Before 24-70 mm f/2.8 devices became synonymous with classic journalistic zooms the market had been dominated by lenses with similar aperture fastness but with focal lengths starting from 28 mm. Tokina was present in that segment as, during all those years, they managed to offer three constructions of that type. You can start their presentation from the most classic model, the AT-X 287 PROSV AF 28–70 mm f/2.8. Two other constructions provided something more; the first of them – the AT-X 280 PRO AF 28–80 mm f/2.8 – featured a tad wider focal range; the second – the AT-X PRO AF-II 28–70 mm f/2.6–2.8 – was a bit faster. The following chart presents a comparison between all of these devices.

Looking at such a diversity it might be surprising that up to 2015 Tokina didn’t offer any 24-70 mm f/2.8 lens, especially that such instruments have been presented by its direct competitors. In February 2015 the situation changed as the launch of the Tokina AT-X PRO FX SD 24–70 mm f/2.8 (IF) was announced.
