Wide angle Tokinas are known for their quite spectacular fails when it comes to work against bright light. Still we hoped the 24-70 mm model might avoid that. Firstly its parameters suggest it is a high quality journalistic zoom so an optical device able to meet higher standards; secondly you deal here with really wide angles of view. Unfortunately our hopes disappeared very quickly…
Let’s call a spade a spade: a lens which generates such a “brilliant” photo as shown below will never get any positive assessment in our flares test. You need just one word to describe it: a catastrophe! Especially that the sun was situated several degrees outside the frame….

The number of light artifacts which can be caught with the Tokina 24-70 mm while attached both to the 50D and the 5D Mark III is so high that in order to include all possibilities we would have to download several dozen photos.
