Because of its complex optical construction and a significant change of dimensions during focusing the Tamron’s 18-400 mm task wasn’t easy in this area. Still looking at photos below you should say it coped sensibly well. The results aren’t perfect but you don’t have any serious reasons to complain either.
The situation observed at the 400 mm focal length, no matter what aperture you employ, is the only exception. When the sun is situated a bit outside the frame the flare is able to spoil the whole shot, covering almost half of the frame.
Fortunately you won’t take photos at 400 mm with the sun right outside the frame very often. I bet many amateur photographers might never stumble on this problem at all.
