The Samyang 35 mm f/1.2 ED AS UMC CS is another well done manual fixed-focal lens designed for mirrorless cameras with sensors smaller than full frame. It is not a flawless device but its faults stem from the premise itself, not from slip-ups or shoddy workmanship of optics specialists. With such a price, dimensions and parameters of the tested lens you still get a lot; a noticeable improvement of the performance would entail either a sharp increase of price or the increase of weight and other physical dimensions. Looking at the entire picture I think I’d rather deal with the existing compromise as it is than a forced improvement of the performance at all cost. Current results of the lens are still very good and its appearance fits the line of small mirrorless cameras with APS-C and Micro 4/3 very well.
Personally I had an opportunity to appreciate moderate dimensions and weight of the Samyang 1.2/35 during a trip to Norwegian Lofoten. It didn’t make my backpack especially heavy and below you can find some processed shots, those I like the most, which I managed to take.
