7. Coma, astigmatism and bokeh

Coma correction and correction of other aberrations of higher degree which deform point-like light images in frame corners is not a strong point of the Laowa 1.8/17. At the maximum relative aperture the image of a diode is distinctly deformed. Fortunately the level of deformations decreases as you stop the lens down to f/2.8.

We don't have any serious objections concerning astigmatism correction for a change. An average difference between orizontal and vertical MTF50 function values amounted to 5.1% and we consider it to be a low level.

The appearance of out-of-focus images, provided by the tested lens, is very sensible but it would be difficult to call it perfect because of a noticeable rim which intensity increases on stopping down. By f/1.8 you can also notice some influence of mechanical vignetting.
