1. Introduction

The first Fujifilm X fast fixed focal length standard lens appeared at the same time as the whole new system. In January 2012, with the launch of the Fujifilm X-Pro1 camera, three lenses were shown: the Fujinon XF 18 mm f/2 R, the Fujinon XF 60 mm f/2.4 Macro, and that fast standard we mentioned, the Fujinon XF 35 mm f/1.4 R.

In 2015 the Fujinon XF 35 mm f/2 R WR, a very well-put-together model, was added to the offer; five years later the same optical construction was packed in a cheaper barrel and offered with a lower price tag.

In 2019 Fujifilm tried to fit an even faster standard, the Fujinon XF 33 mm f/1 R WR, into their line-up. Its prototype was shown during the CP+ event and we have written about it several times. Its dimensions and weight, reaching 1300 grams were really attention-catching, but, I suppose, these extreme parameters were also the reason why the company didn't launch it on the market after all.

However, that decision meant there was room for another launch. The older Fujinon 1.4/35 R stopped meeting contemporary requirements, especially concerning its autofocus performance, so in September 2021 we were shown its successor, the Fujinon XF 33 mm f/1.4 R LM WR.
