Sony FE 70-200 mm f/4 Macro G OSS II

1. Introduction

In times when Sony took over the Minolta A mount, they didn't launch any 70-200 mm class lens as fast as f/4.0 or so for a very long time. They did release two versions of the journalistic 70-200 f/2.8 but, if it comes to slower instruments, you had to make do with older constructions, produced under the name of Minolta. Fortunately these older constructions were quite numerous, after all Minolta was famous for offering several 70-210 mm devices. You can compare their parameters by looking at the following chart.

It is very interesting that, after all, the 70-200 mm f/4.0 model did appear in the Sony line-up by and large at the beginning of their mirrorless full frame system, in October 2013, almost three years earlier than the f/2.8 instrument.

Almost ten years passed from that moment and during that time Sony managed to release as many as two 70-200 mm f/2.8 models. It seems they also reached the decision to change one of the oldest lenses in their system. On 12 July 2023 they presented the Sony FE 70-200 mm f/4 G OSS II.
